Emotional regulation
We all have times when we have big feelings such as anger or worry. These feelings can be hard to manage and can result in us acting in ways that make the situation worse. Often our brain is “flooded” and we need some ways of calming ourselves.
The following lists some of the most common presentations of emotional dysregulation:
- Defiant behaviours
- Attention deficit issues
- Poor listening and/or compliance
- Explosive outbursts
- Problems in self-control
- Oppositional behaviours
- Traits of Hyperactivity/ Impulsivity
- Challenging behaviours
- Lashing ‘out’
- Self-harm behaviours
- Aggressive behaviours
